10 Horror Movies to Watch for Halloween That Are On Streaming Platforms Right Now

Every October a trio of America’s favorite things come together: Horror movies, candy, and Halloween. In the mainstream world, Halloween means a time in which kids dress up in costumes and trick-or-treat for candy and other goodies. However, in the world of media, October and Halloween mean it’s horror movie season, and with how broken up streaming platforms are nowadays, we figured we’d come up with a list of movies to watch, and which streaming platforms you can find them on.

Now, with that being said, some of this content admittedly can be cheeky. For example, in 2022 Disney released its sequel to the hit 1993 movie Hocus Pocus, and this year, Disney+ launched its follow up to the WandaVision series, Agatha All Along. Traditionally however, looking past campy scary content like Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Hocus Pocus, horror movies have long been about the terrifying supernatural and bloody slashers, so, with that in mind here are 10 scary titles currently on streaming platforms worthy of putting two OOs in the word spooky.

10 Horror Movies to Watch for Halloween that Are On Streaming Platforms Right Now

1. Alien (Hulu): This sci-fi movie, which was directed by Ridley Scott and released in 1979 stars Sigourney Weaver and Tom Skerritt. There are several scary scenes in this classic movie. Arguably, many people look at the “Chestburster” birth scene as one of the scariest moments of the movie.

2. A Nightmare on Elm Street (AMC+): The 1984 movie from Wes Craven introduces Freddie Krueger to the world. Terrorizing a group of teenagers in their dreams Freddie wore a glove with knife blades sewn into to facilitate his method of killing and terrorizing high-school kids.

4. Friday the 13th (Prime Video):  One of the most popular horror movie franchises ever, Friday the 13th is a must watch for Halloween loving horror movie fans. The first movie in the franchise was released back in 1980 and the film focuses on the murders of campers at Camp Crystal Lake.

5. Halloween (Crackle and Plex): The 1978 movie likely launched Jamie Lee Curtis’ career, and the plot centers on an escapee from a mental institution: Michael Myers. Myers goes on a killing spree in a small Midwestern town, and like Friday the 13th, the popularity of the movie would spawn a franchise.

6. Jaws (Netflix): A case could be made that Jaws is the first summer blockbuster movie. Despite its status as a summer movie, the classic Steven Spielberg stands up well as a horror movie. Taking place in a small vacation community, the 1975 film finds a local fisherman—Quint, along with a local sheriff and scientist hunting a giant killer shark.

7. Salem’s Lot (Max): A popular Stephen King horror story, the original mini-series dates to 1979. More recently, the title was rebooted in 2004, and Max is set to launch another reboot this Halloween season. Summing up Salem’s Lot, a writer tries to save a small town from vampires.

9. The Shining (Max): The 1980 Stanley Kubrick movie based on a Stephen King book stars Jack Nicholson and Shelley Duvall. The Torrance family moves to Colorado to caretake for a hotel. Slowly however Jack Torrance, played by Nicholson begins to lose his mind and things spiral downwards for the Torrance family.

10. X-Files (Hulu): The 1990s series from Fox features the characters Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) as FBI agents.
