Alfred’s New Conversion Kit Turns Any of Its Deadbolts into an Interconnect Lock

Alfred International is looking to open some new doors for installers with its latest release, the Interconnect Kit. Touted as a first-of-its-kind solution by Alfred, the kit makes it so that any of the company’s deadbolts can be easily converted into a code-compliant interconnect lock with single-motion egress functionality.

Why This is Important

The use of smart technology within multifamily and rental property settings has steadily grown over the years with both property managers and tenants being largely interested in the quality-of-life aspects these technologies can bring.

However, property managers have long faced several challenges when choosing between smart access control options and fire code compliance, as many smart access control options on the market tend to be geared more towards residential in their design. The result is often a toss up between the device either being non-compliant or lacking many of the desired features of a smart lock in the first place.

How the Interconnect Kit Changes That

According to Alfred, the new Interconnect kit eliminates that trade-off by allowing installers to convert any Alfred smart deadbolt into a code-compliant interconnect lock. Continuing, the company states the kit is ideal for both retrofit and new installs but specifically shines in locations where locks with a single-motion egress are a requirement.

The kit itself comes with multiple lever options, a slimmer profile, and finishes that match Alfred’s smart lock, and is usable on standard prepped doors. This means that broader upgrades can be made across an entire property without having to replace existing lock hardware.

Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.

  • Alfred is also quick to point out that the kit is designed to adapt as building codes evolve, giving installers options to upgrade based on changing requirements.
  • This also opens standard hardware up to tech options like Z-Wave, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, PIN Codes, RFID and integrations with leading automation platforms.

Once upgraded, the new solutions can provide PIN codes, smartphone access, and traditional key control for access options.

What’s Being Said

“The Interconnect Kit represents a breakthrough in multi-family access control,” said Brad Cook, Head of Product Integration at Alfred International.

“We’re enabling property managers to modernize their access control without compromising on safety or breaking their budget. This innovation opens up smart access to millions of units that were previously limited by code requirements and extremely limited options.”

The Interconnect Kit on Tour

For those who happen to be attending KBIS or co-located IBS at the end of February, Alfred will be showcasing the Interconnect Kit alongside its deadbolts at booth C8908. Alfred will also be attending ISC West in March, where the kit will be displayed at booth 25136.
