Amazon has expanded its Fire TV lineup, introducing the Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series to the consumer market. Sporting a new Mini-LED backlight, over 1,300 local dimming zones, and a peak brightness of 1,400 nits, the new series aim to deliver improved contrast and color accuracy while leveraging some of Amazon’s most advanced entertainment hardware to date.
Two such features include Dolby Vision IQ and HDR10+ Adaptive, which allow the display to adjust dynamically based on ambient light conditions. This ‘Intelligent Picture Technology, as Amazon calls it, also uses artificial intelligence alongside light sensors to optimize image quality in real time by adjusting brightness and color temperature of the display.
The new TVs also include Amazon’s far-field technology and Alexa voice control, enabling users to manage playback and settings hands-free. Additionally, the Omni Mini-LED Series is one of the first Fire TVs to really embrace gaming with 144Hz refresh rate and an Auto Low Latency Mode to minimize input lag. The Omni series also supports FreeSync Premium Pro to prevent screen tearing and flickering from more high-performance games.
The Omni Mini-LED Series also supports Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, providing faster, low-latency streaming for users with compatible routers.
The Fire TV Omni Mini-LED Series will start at $819.99 for the 55-inch model and capping off at $2,099.99 MSRP for the 85-inch TV. The series also has 65-inch and 75-inch TVs at $1089.99 and $1,499.99 respectively, and will be available for purchase as of today.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
Alongside this announcement, Amazon also said it is updating the Fire TV 4-Series with a slimmer bezel. It still maintains its core display capabilities with 4K UHD resolution and support for HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Digital Sound. The change, states Amazon, is to adapt the display to more modern, minimalist tastes.
Both the Omni Mini-LED and the updated 4-Series will include Amazon’s Ambient Experience as well, which displays information and artwork when the TV is not actively streaming content (much like the myriad other art TVs on the market currently). Interactive artwork within the Ambient Experience responds to motion detected by a high-fidelity radar sensor, adding visuals such as animated koi fish and butterflies.
Amazon also announced the Soundbar Plus Series, Amazon’s latest addition to its audio lineup, offering a 3.1-channel sound system with support for Dolby Atmos, DTS, and DTS TruVolume. According to Amazon, this soundbar provides a broader audio experience, with four preset modes for specific content.
For users seeking an enhanced setup, the Soundbar Plus can pair with a wireless subwoofer and two wireless surround speakers, allowing for an expanded surround sound system. Connectivity is straightforward via HDMI ARC/eARC.
