Apple is reportedly eyeing a 2025 release date for its wall-mounted smart home display, and is also rumored to be working on a smart home IP camera.
The customizable home screen can allow users to quickly control smart home systems, run widgets, check stock tickers, weather and appointments.
The news comes from two separate reports about the company’s smart home ambitions, which are apparently being pushed into high gear.
According to Bloomberg, Apple could release its first Apple Intelligence-powered smart home device as early as March. The long-rumored smart home tablet will take the form of “a wall-mounted display” that resembles a traditional home security panel.
Apple wants the device to serve as the “command center for the home” and will include Apple apps, Apple Intelligence, and an integration with HomeKit. The device will also feature a camera, a rechargeable built-in battery, and speakers.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
According to Bloomberg, the product will operate almost entirely on its own and will work with Apple’s Handoff feature, which lets users start a function on one device then continue on their iPhone.
Bloomberg also reports that the device will run on a new operating system that will include sensors to determine how close a person is. It will then automatically adjust its features depending on the distance. For example, if users are several feet away, it might show the temperature. As they approach, the interface can switch to a panel for adjusting the home thermostat.
A high-end smart home display featuring a robotic arm is expected to be released sometime after this display.
Another report from Apple analyst Ming-chi Kuo suggests that the company is also entering the smart home IP camera market, with production expected in 2026. The camera is designed to integrate with other Apple products wirelessly.
Apple is targeting annual shipments of at least 10 million units, Kuo says.
For both of these products, Apple Intelligence, Siri and HomeKit are expected to play big roles.
Bloomberg also corroborated that report, also saying that Apple could be working on a full line of smart home devices.
