Bang & Olufsen and TCL Electronics have entered into a long-term licensing partnership to bring Bang & Olufsen’s legendary audio quality to TCL’s portfolio of premium and high-end TVs beginning this year, and the first TV looks like a design-oriented TV called NXTFrame TV similar to The Frame from Samsung.
The agreement, which began last month and spans six years, is beginning with TCL’s A300 Pro NXTFrame TV, which was announced in China last month. The TV will have a soundbar and subwoofer co-engineered by acoustic teams from both companies. The TV will also feature Bang & Olufsen’s BeoSonic digital interface for customization of their audio experience.
Kristian Teär, CEO of Bang & Olufsen, is delighted about the new partnership and the commercial potential it holds for the company.
“This is a partnership with great global potential for both brands,” says Kristian Teär, CEO of Bang & Olufsen. “We’ll collaborate to bring premium sound experiences to TCL’s customers and enhance the overall product experience. At the same time, this is further proof of our commitment to expanding our licensing partnerships business in line with our strategy and as stated in our medium-term financial ambitions.”
Little about the TV was actually said in the announcement, but several press reports and the product page for the Chinese version of the product website with some of the same marketing images from the Bang & Olufsen press release suggest it will double as an art display when not being used as a TV. A page for the Chinese TCL site for the “A300 Pro 3rd Generation Art TV” with audio provided by Bang & Olufsen and some of the same marketing materials as in the Bang & Olufsen press release indicate a large library of art that can be displayed when not in use.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
The product page lists sizes of 65-, 75-, and 85-inches, both floor mounting and wall-mounting capabilities, a 3.1.2 audio system, a 27.9mm frame, and different frame color options. We’ll have to wait for the U.S. release for more specs and information.
TCL’s TV is of course similar to The Frame from Samsung and other premium TVs designed to blend in with a home’s architecture and design when not in use. Another similar TV, the Canvas TV from Hisense, was also recently announced.
