Bloomsbury Lab Enters U.S. Market Through Launch of Cinematic Sound Series

Bloomsbury Lab, an Asian-based cinema and home theater screen supplier, is entering the U.S. market with its Cinematic Sound Series of products.

The screen company has been in business for over a decade, having built thousands of projection screens for theaters across 14 countries, including Japan, Korea, and Taiwan. Now, Bloomsbury Lab has developed an all-in-one audio and video solution designed to replicate its professional cinema installations’ immersive cinematic audio-visual experience at home.

A Look at Bloomsbury’s Cinematic Sound Series

According to Bloomsbury Lab, its Cinematic Sound Series incorporates the same audio engineering the Liberty Wide models employ in large-scale cinema screens across Asia.

In traditional home systems the company points out, front speakers are placed outside the screen’s circumference. However, both Liberty models deliver sound directly from the screen, which Bloomsbury Lab asserts ensures more accurate dialog and action placement. Each Cinematic Sound Series screen is mounted on a 1.1mm (0.04 inches) aluminum plate, delivering both audio and video from a single one-and-a-half-inch deep enclosure.

The screen material is affixed to the rigid aluminum plate covering the screen’s full length and width. The aluminum plate acts as a vibrating panel to generate sound. The actuator drive units are attached to the aluminum plate, which converts electrical signals into mechanical movement. The vibrations are then controlled to produce outstanding audio with pinpoint accuracy.

Both models can be customized for long-throw and ultra-short-throw (UST) projectors. UST models incorporate ambient light-rejecting (ALR) technology to support quality video experiences in brightly lit environments.

Liberty Wide

The Liberty Wide Cinematic Sound Series product integrates a three-way, two-channel active speaker system into the screen. Bloomsbury Lab notes the model also incorporates a built-in Bluetooth amplifier the company says eliminates the need for external audio components to offer homeowners and professional integrators a sleek, less cluttered setup.

The Liberty Wide model also comes with a 1.5-inch rear enclosure that can be used to store wireless streaming components, with the company suggesting it can work largely as a plug-and-play audio/video solution for homeowners.

Liberty Wide Pro

The Liberty Wide Pro then steps up the home AV experience even further, introducing a 3-way, 3-channel speaker system with a left, center, and right speaker, identical to the configurations used behind perforated screens in commercial movie theaters. The company says this product is also expandable to include additional audio channels, such as surround, rear, and ceiling speakers, for a full Dolby Atmos or DTS:X setup immersive audio.

The new video equipment manufacturer stresses the Cinematic Sound Series Liberty Wide Pro is a passive speaker system, requiring an external AVR or amplifier to allow integrators to choose the amplification and sound processing of their choice. Like the Liberty Wide, the Pro model is fully assembled in a 1.5-inch slim rear enclosure with a modern thin frame. The system is said to deliver a 20Hz –20kHz frequency response.

In addition, the Cinematic Sound Series Liberty Wide and Liberty Wide Pro both utilize a minimalist design, along with a proprietary optical coating technology to deliver vibrant colors and deep contrast. Moreover, the product’s ultra-wide aspect ratio eliminates letterboxing for widescreen content, and the future-proof technology is optimized for 4K, 8K, and HDR content.
