Home theater enthusiasts and CE pros take note, ahead of CEDIA Expo 2024, the show is debuting a very special coffee-table book celebrating the legacy of home theaters within the custom integration space. The book, titled “Home Theaterology,” is a collaborative effort between Richard Charschan, president of AcousticSmart Home Theatre Interiors, whose work has featured prominently in CE Pro, and multiple other home theater experts.
Designed to inspire technology integrators, interior designers, and architects, “Home Theaterology” is currently available for preorder and will release during CEDIA Expo 2024 this September.
“Home theaters have the potential to be the dazzling centerpiece of any home, yet we’ve seen a decline in their integration into residential spaces,” said Charschan. (I’m sure he’d be thrilled to read our most recent findings on the comeback of the home theater industry.)
“To reignite this passion, we created Home Theaterology. It’s more than just a publication; it’s a movement to elevate the home theater experience and educate the custom integration, design, and architecture communities on the immense potential of home theaters.”
Taking cures from Theo Kalomirakis’ classic book Great Escapes as well as contributions from the home theater pioneer, “Home Theaterology” looks at 15 home theater projects, all paired with different bits of insight that reveal all that goes into building a truly impressive home theater system.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
The book is cosponsored by prominent industry-leading brands, such as Kaleidescape, Barco Residential, Screen Research, CEDIA, CEDIA Expo, Storm Audio, Meridian, JBL Synthesis, D-Tools, TPI, 360 Power Quality, and MadVR, among others.

Barry Sonnenfeld, an acclaimed director and cinematographer (and esteemed keynoter at this year’s CEDIA Expo), has written a foreword, emphasizing the critical role of home theaters in delivering an unparalleled cinematic experience.
Max Weinberg, drummer for Bruce Springsteen’s E Street Band, also wrote a foreword in which he chronicles his journey to recreate and elevate the cinematic experience at home.
With insights from experts like Joel Silver on video calibration and Tony Grimani on acoustics, “Home Theaterology” provides valuable knowledge to inspire designers and architects to embrace the resurgent trend of home theaters.
“Home Theaterology showcases incredible dedicated home theaters that will inspire limitless ideas for future home theater projects. The contributors to the book are a ‘Who’s Who’ list of esteemed dignitaries and industry experts sharing their priceless knowledge,” said Jason Knott, data solutions architect and evangelist for D-Tools Inc.
“Moreover, the list of recommended demo clips in this must-have book are an excellent reference tool that integrators can use to perform mind-blowing demos for their clients. D-Tools is honored to be one of the sponsors, as Home Theaterology’s vision coincides with our mission to help grow the industry.”
Attendees to CEDIA Expo 2024 can preorder advance copies of Home Theaterology at hometheaterology.net, however the main book launch event will happen exclusively at the CEDIA Expo 2024. (Of course, if you’re still eager to look at some ideas for cool home theaters in the meantime, we got you covered.)
