Dynaudio Launches Contour 20 Black Edition, Confidence 20A Speakers to Serve Luxury Audio Installations

The Danish home and professional audio company Dynaudio, has announced its latest residential speakers products: The Contour 20 Black Edition and the Confidence 20A active loudspeaker.

The Contour 20 Black Edition

Providing some context on the development of the new Contour loudspeaker, Dynaudio points out that historically it has had success designing special edition versions of its products. The company notes that when looking at its product lineup, there is a price gap between the Contour 20i and the Confidence 20. Looking to bridge that gap, the Contour 20 Black Edition was developed as a crossover, with the company having built upon the original Contour 20i and upgrading its tweeter and mid-bass driver to perform akin to that of a Confidence (a step up above the Countour line).

  • The resulting Contour 20 Black Edition speakers are available for $8,000 per pair.
  • Additionally, the optional stands for the Contour 20 Black Edition speakers carry a retail price of $599 per pair.

Features and Specs

Looking closer, Dynaudio specifies the speaker’s sensitivity to be 86dB, its impedance to be 4 ohms, and its frequency response at 50Hz to 23kHz. The Contour 20 Black Edition also features a woofer upgrade in which the limited edition model employs a neodymium magnet and a longer voice coil winding, which is says helps the speaker to deliver greater precision, attack and imaging. The woofer has also been paired to a bigger, dual-flare port design that better optimizes the movement of air.

Aesthetically, the Contour 20 Black Edition offers design elements such as a black woofer basket, a black tweeter front plate, a black speaker cable terminal plate; along with a black anodized front baffle and a high-gloss black cabinet. Continuing its outline of the limited edition Contour speaker, Dynaudio comments the speaker includes a tweeter upgrade from the Esotar 2i to the Esotar 3, which it says results in the black edition speaker producing more air and space, and better resolution of high-frequency detail.

Wrapping up its summary of Contour 20 Black Edition upgrades, Dynaudio says the speaker’s crossover network utilizes better components that include Mundorf caps and resistors, a larger air coil, and Van den Hul cables. The company adds the speaker uses a second-order filter for both drivers and a crossover point of 3.6kHz.

The Future of Digital Lighting & Control

As a custom integrator, lighting is in demand. Effective communication, education and showcasing the value proposition of LED light fixtures in conjunction with integrative control systems are the keys to overcoming challenges and closing sales in this specialized market.

The Confidence 20A Active Loudspeaker

In addition the the Contour 20 Black Edition loudspeaker, Dynaudio has announced its active Confidence 20A speaker. Offering some backdrop on the development of the new Confidence speaker, Dynaudio says it wanted to build upon its legacy of active (powered) loudspeakers such as the Focus XD, XEO, and Dynaudio Professional lines. According to the company, the speaker is essentially its top-of-the-line Confidence 20 with active electronics added to the mix.

  • These updated speakers carry a retail price of $24,000 per pair.

Features and Specs

Dynaudio specifies the Confidence 20A speaker to produce a frequency response 34Hz to 25kHz +/-3dB. Additionally, the Confidence 20A incorporates an internal amplifier that was derived from Dynaudio’s professional audio products with technical elements that include amplifier technologies from Pascal, along with a proprietary front-end design. Dynaudio specifies the speaker’s amplifiers to produce 400 watts to power for the woofer and 150 watts of power to drive the tweeter.

Other features the Confidence 20A provides include an AES3 (XLR) digital input and output, and an XLR analog input. The speaker controls include digital AES3 left/right options, sample-rate conversion on/off, sound balance, analog sensitivity, and an equalization control that offers a choice of “free” for when the speaker is set away from a wall, “wall,” when the speaker is close to a wall, and “corner” for corner placement.

Like the Contour 20 Black Edition, the Confidence 20A utilizes the Esotar 3 tweeter, along with a woofer that features a neodymium magnet, and a dual-flared port design. Dynaudio also specifies the Confidence 20A speaker to produce a frequency response 34Hz to 25kHz +/-3dB.

Outlining some of the design elements the speaker includes, the Confidence 20A employs a black front baffle that matches the driver rings and controls and connections on the back of the speaker stand.
