ecobee at CES 2025 has unveiled the Smart Thermostat Essential, a new value-focused version of the company’s smart thermostat that offers many of the same control features at a lower cost.
ecobee bills the $129.99 Smart Thermostat Essential as a simple-to-install, easy-to-use connected thermostat that can help customers save money on heating and cooling costs and cover the cost of the device in just a few months of use.
Like the company’s other thermostats, the Smart Thermostat Essential offers scheduling and comfort settings, and it also adapts to a home’s routine to help optimize energy use while users are away, and make it comfortable when they’re home.
The smart thermostat learns how long it takes to heat and cool the home and delivers the temperature when customers want it, the company says. It can be paired with the company’s SmartSensors to further optimize temperature controls in rooms frequently used.
The thermostat will also benefit from an update made in June 2024 that allows the device to adjust home temperature to avoid power outages when the risk of a brownout is present.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
The physical devices features a color touchscreen display for control, but homeowners can also use a mobile app to control their home’s HVAC system from anywhere. It also integrates with major smart home systems and their respective voice assistants, such as Alexa, Apple Homekit and Google Home. Customers will get alerts if issues are detected to prevent heating and colling disruptions, the company says.
The thermostat differs from other ecobee models in that it is smaller and doesn’t feature a built-in radar for occupancy and motion detection, air quality monitoring, or integrated speakers. It is, however, made with “premium” materials like the company’s more advanced models. It is, however, made with “premium” materials like the company’s more advanced models that cost up to $249.99.
ecobee also says its new Home Energy Reports feature helps customers understand their energy use, providing insights and opportunities to help save on energy costs. As a greater focus continues to be put on energy usage in the home, HVAC control remains one of the most popular smart home functionalities among consumers.
“We believe that everyone deserves a smarter home without compromise,” said Greg Fyke, President and CEO of ecobee. “We’re excited to add Smart Thermostat Essential to our smart thermostat lineup, making it easier than ever before for customers to enjoy the benefits of enhanced energy savings without sacrificing comfort.”
