Kwikset introduced a new, illuminating product into its portfolio this week with the availability of the Halifax LED Lever.
Kwikset explains the Halifax LED Lever features an integrated LED light that illuminates the handle when motion is detected, making it easier to locate in the dark. A built-in motion sensor activates the light when movement is detected within 10 feet, based on room brightness of one lux, at a 108-degree angle.
The light turns off after seven seconds of no motion to conserve energy. The 4000k LED light emits a natural white glow powered by a single AAA battery.
Kwikset suggests the LED lever offers at least eight months of reliable performance, based on an average of 20 activations per day. The battery is easily replaceable, to help ensure consistent functionality.
Additionally, the lever includes Microban antimicrobial product protection, which helps keep the surface 99.9% cleaner than unprotected hardware.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
Despite the immediate thought of the Halifax being useful for finding keys in the dark, Kwikset is quick to point out the device’s function as an interior handle, with it being available in privacy and passage functions.
The privacy option, designed for bedrooms and bathrooms, includes a push-button lock with an emergency release tool. The passage option, suited for hallways and closets, allows for free operation from both sides.
This interior placement, Kwikset notes, makes it a solution for providing illumination during power outages, in dimly lit spaces or in children’s bedrooms. It also serves as a beneficial solution for elderly residents attempting to navigate the home at night.
It can also be used for short-term rental properties to provide guests with a safe and intuitive way to navigate unfamiliar spaces. The lever fits standard doors and includes an adjustable backset to accommodate various door dimensions.
According to the company, the lever’s design includes a sleek square rosette that adds a contemporary touch to any interior. It also features Kwikset’s exclusive proprietary chassis with dual compression springs that keep the lever straight and wobble-free over its lifetime.
The lever is also fully reversible and can be installed on either right-handed or left-handed doors.
Available in a Matte Black finish, the Halifax LED Lever is part of Kwikset’s Signature Series and meets ANSI/BHMA Grade AAA certification for security, durability and finish.
