LG Adds Bendable Display Tech to Its UltraGear GX9 Series of Monitors

Following up its 2025 evo announcement earlier this week, LG Electronics (LG) states that it is reinforcing market position in the gaming market as a premium OLED gaming monitor manufacturer through the introduction of its UltraGear GX9 series, which were just announced at CES 2025. The new lineup includes the 45GX990A Bendable Gaming monitor, along with an all-in-one smart gaming monitor powered by LG webOS.

“The UltraGear GX9 series sets a new standard for OLED gaming monitors, combining groundbreaking display technology with smart features that expand and enhance the user experience,” says YS Lee, vice president and head of the IT Business Unit, LG Media Entertainment Solution Company.

“From the world’s first 5K2K OLED gaming monitors with second-generation Dual-Mode to smart gaming monitors with built-in webOS, the GX9 lineup pushes the boundaries to deliver maximum value and enjoyment for our customers.”

UltraGear GX9 Series Feature a Monstrous 5K2K Resolution

The 45GX990A and 45GX950A are 45-inch, 21:9 gaming monitors that feature 5K2K resolution (5,120 x 2,160), which LG says is a first for OLED monitors. The monitors’ 21:9 aspect ratio are intended to offer a more immersive gaming experience than standard 16:9 displays, while maintaining better content compatibility than 32:9 monitors.

Both products feature LG’s second-generation Dual-Mode option that offers users with customizable aspect ratios (21:9 or 16:9) and a choice of 39-, 34-, or 27-inch image sizes with simple switching between preset screen-resolution and refresh-rate combos. Gamers can further personalize their setups to suit their preferences or adapt to different game genres, including FPS, RPG, MOBA and racing simulators.

As per LG, all UltraGear GX9 series models feature curved display panels employing its proprietary WOLED technology. The new gaming monitors are designed to produce high brightness levels, deep blacks, a wide-array of colors with the curved screens to provide a combination that offers more immersive gaming experiences.

LG also claims the new gaming monitors are certified for low blue light emissions for a more comfortable experience by reducing eye strain during extended gaming sessions. In addition, LG’s Anti-Glare & Low Reflection (AGLR) coating minimizes screen reflections and glare, making it easier for gamers to see their gaming activities in rooms with lots of ambient light.

But Back to That Bendable Display Tech Being Used

The 45GX990A model leverages LG’s bendable display tech, making it potentially the first 5K2K-resolution bendable OLED display available on the market, with LG saying the monitor can smoothly transition from completely flat to a 900R curvature. The Bendable display also comes with a fast 0.03ms (GtG) response time to help create smooth gameplay and immersion.

In addition to its bendable nature, LG points out the 45GX990A employs 125 pixels per-inch (PPI) and an RGWB sub-pixel layout to improve the readability of in-game text and makes productivity tasks, such as editing documents or website content easier.

The 45GX950A, meanwhile, maintains a fixed curved (800R),21:9 format 5K2K-resolution, using a self-lit 45-inch panel that utilizes the company’s Virtually Borderless design and slim bezels to help boost users’ sense of immersion while adding a sleek aesthetic to any gaming setup.

LG notes that like its bendable sibling, the 45GX950A also supports DisplayPort 2.1, HDMI 2.1 and USB-C with 90-watts of power delivery. According to LG, these options ensure seamless compatibility with the latest graphics cards and features such as variable refresh rate (VRR) while enabling convenient device charging.

Other features include the product’s certification by NVIDIA G-SYNC and AMD FreeSync Premium Pro to provide reduced screen tearing for a smoother, more responsive gaming experience.

LG is Also Adding in an “Entertainment Hub” Monitor for Streaming

LG adds the GX9 UltraGear 39GX90SA is designed to deliver high-level gaming and content-streaming experiences. Powered by webOS, the smart monitor functions as a home entertainment hub, enabling users to access all their go-to streaming services without a PC or set-top box.

Whether or not this monitors will benefit from LG’s upcoming Xbox partnership due to its use of webOS is unknown.

The product incorporates a 39-inch, 21:9 aspect ratio curved (800R), and LG emphasizes the OLED display is engineered to produce brilliant colors and deep, dark blacks to support AAA games and HDR movies and TV series playback.

The monitor is also equipped with USB Type-C ports and LG’s ergonomic and space-saving L-shaped stand for a clutter-free desk setup.
