LG Smart TVs Will Soon Be Able to Play Xbox Games

In a move that keeps LG in line with recent smart TV industry trends, the company is partnering with Xbox to provide access to Xbox games on LG smart TVs via the company’s new Gaming Portal.

According to LG, Gaming Portal is accessible from the Home Screen and is powered by its smart TV system webOS. The Gaming Portal includes a list of cloud gaming apps, webOS app games playable with a remote controller, recently played titles, the most popular games, editor’s picks, and other personalized experiences.

Launch Date for LG, Xbox Partnership Currently Unclear

It is currently unclear which LG model TVs can access Gaming Portal, but LG describes it as an “all-in-one” solution for finding games to play. Like Samsung’s Gaming Hub, the interface is similar to how many smart TV operating systems provide a curated list of content for users to watch across a variety of streaming apps and services.

It’s also unclear when users will be able to access Gaming Portal, with LG only saying owners of LG smart TVs will “soon” be able to explore the service for access to games with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate. This gives users access to stream games such as Call of Duty: BlackOps 6, NBA 2K25, Howards Legacy, and others.

According to Xbox parent company Microsoft, this will be available on 2025 LG smart TVs “later this year.” Additional details will be announced in the coming months, Microsoft said in its own announcement.

How Similar Services Have Worked in the Past

Samsung has offered its Gaming Hub service on certain smart TVs, smart monitors and projectors from 2022 to new releases, with apps including Xbox,  NVIDIA Geo Force, Luna, Blacknut, Utomik, Antsream, Boosteroid, Twitch, and others.

This move better positions LG against Samsung, which is its main rival in both U.S. TV sales and now, cloud gaming via the smart TV operating system.

According to LG’s website, the company has offered smart TV cloud gaming via GeForce Now, Amazon Luna, Blacknut, Utomic and Boosteroid, but the addition of Xbox is new.
