LG to Bring Cloud Gaming to Other Screens This Year

LG is bringing its Gaming Portal to a wider range of screens and platforms this year, expanding the reach of its cloud gaming offering to LG’s smart monitors and lifestyle screens by the second quarter of this year. Currently, LG’s Gaming Portal is only available on smart TVs running webOS 23 and above in 19 markets.

In addition, LG will soon add Xbox Cloud to its growing list of partnerships with leading cloud gaming services, which also includes NVIDIA GeForce NOW, Amazon Luna, Boosteroid, and Blacknut. LG has not said exactly when users can play Xbox games via the cloud. The company first announced the partnership at CES 2025. Notably, Samsung has offered Xbox gaming on their smart TVs since 2022.

How LG’s Gaming Portal Works

According to LG, Gaming Portal is built into the webOS interface and can be accessed through the home screen. Much like how smart TVs offer a curated list of movies and shows to watch, Gaming Portal provides a curated list of cloud gaming apps, webOS app games playable with the remote, recently played games, trending lists, and more.

Gamers can find their preferred gaming experience by selecting either “Play with Remote Control” or “Play with Game Pad” from the left-side menu, eliminating the need to search through individual games.

On My Page, gamers can see a comprehensive summary of their achievements, progress, points, levels and tier upgrades based on their activity within the Gaming Portal. Users can also create a personalized list of games in the My Games menu so they don’t miss out on anticipated game releases.

The Rise of Cloud Gaming and Gamer-Ready TVs

Cloud gaming is a growing category among display manufacturers, with Samsung also offering its Gaming Hub on TVs and monitors, essentially allowing users to play games right from their TV without having to connect a separate gaming console. As of February 2024, Microsoft reported 34 million subscribers of its Game Pass service, and NVIDIA in February 2023 said GeForce NOW cloud gaming service had more than 25 million members in 100 countries.

This increase in interest among consumers has led many manufacturers to improve certain aspects of TVs that would make them more salient to gaming, such as offering higher refresh rates.

According to LG, its TVs support 4K at 120Hz variable refresh rate for fluid gameplay. LG TVs are also NVIDIA G-SYNC Compatible and include AMD FreeSync Premium certification.

The company says some models of its newest OLED evo TVs have the industry’s first 4K 165Hz VRR and are the first to have the ClearMR 10000 certification by VESA, for a flawless motion during fast-paced action.
