LG is partnering with Blacknut Cloud Gaming to bring more cloud gaming options to LG smart TVs in the U.S. This newest partnership will work to supplement the current deal LG has with Amazon to deliver cloud gaming through its Luna service.
According to the display manufacturer, LG is bringing the popular Jackbox Party Starter and Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway to LG smart TVs via the webOS App Store. Gamers can play a 30-minute free demo before unlocking the full game for a small monthly subscription fee.
Gamers with an LG smart TV from 2021 and newer equipped with at least webOS 6.0. The games can only be played from the original purchasing device.
Justifying the continued investment in bringing more cloud gaming to smart TVs, the companies note a 134% increase year over year in cloud game app opens and a 145% increase in the number of unique TVs opening cloud gaming apps.
Olivier Avara, CEO of Blacknut Cloud Gaming, says the new ability for users to purchase individual Blacknut titles from LG’s app store broadens the scope of democratized access to premium cloud gaming.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
“By reducing the already minimal friction associated with starting and maintaining cloud games, players can focus on what truly matters—the enjoyment and immersion of the gaming experience itself,” Avaro says. “Through this seamless access, players can dive into their favorite games quickly, effortlessly, and with minimal expense, allowing for more spontaneous and flexible gaming sessions.”
The development and launch of this new capability were completed in just under two months, the companies say.
“At LG, we are delighted to offer accessible premium gaming experiences to our consumers through our continued collaboration with Blacknut,” says Matthew Durgin, vice president of North American content and services at LG Electronics USA. “LG is looking forward to continuing to innovate in the cloud gaming industry. Our partnership with Blacknut is a testament to how LG continues to bring added value and premium gaming experiences to our users.”
