Nice is selling its stake in the personal emergency response system (PERS) industry. Announced August 14,, 2024, the home and building management company announced it will be selling its health and wellness brand, Numera to the Malar Group at a currently indeterminate point in the future.
The decision to sell Numera, as stated by Nice, is part of the company’s roadmap to help hone the company’s portfolio of products, and follows the strategic rebranding of SpeakerCraft, Elan and Panamax from late last year. Closing the transaction, according to the company is “a critical step in simplifying the Nice portfolio and strengthening the company’s focus on its core business.”
In this next stage of growth, Nice states it will be accelerating its expansion and integration of brands to create a more robust, powerful whole-home solution for its partners and end-users.
Having been in operation for over 20 years, Numera has been recognized for its contribution to telehealth and telecare monitoring solutions. These solutions include the Home Safety Hub medical alert system, the Libris 2 emergency support pendant, and the EverThere cloud-based health tracking application.
These solutions allow service providers and health-related companies to more reliably track and manage the health and wellbeing of their customers while also providing individuals greater independence and confidence regarding their health and safety.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
While the company has plenty of promise and focus on the aging in place demographic, the company also works in construction, retail, delivery and personal security.
Following the sale, Numera will be brought under the umbrella of the Malar Group, which currently contains an array of businesses spanning manufacturers of physical infrastructure to digital service providers in the IT, cybersecutrity, communication and education sectors, among others.
“We deeply value the Numera brand and its contributions to consumer safety and security, and we are confident that Numera will continue to thrive under Malar Group’s leadership, serving a vital need in the health and wellness market,” said Luca Longhin, President of Nice North America.
“Looking ahead, our strategic focus remains steadfast on innovating and delivering best-in-class home management and security solutions for our core customer base.”
While not quite at the point of full market proliferation, the growing tailwinds in home healthcare have been felt by quite a few within the custom integration industry, as well as the broader tech space.
While integrators long known for their trailblazing business models have already stepped into the market, digital healthcare is still largely in its infancy as what will become the largest senior population in U.S. history is just now entering into retirement age, with a significant majority hoping to live out the remainder of their years in their homes, rather than in a care facility.
Where the smart home plays into the trend is still something that is yet to be determined, and while Nice’s selling of Numera could be seen as their own statement on where they believe the market to be heading, it is very likely that the broader business focus of Numera ranging from construction to retail, simply didn’t align with the more condensed focus of today’s Nice as it seeks to strengthen it’s smart home business.
Still though, it will be interesting to see if in the coming years, Numera somehow makes its way back into the smart home space under different pretenses.
