Onkyo has announced the expansion of its partnership with digital audio software provider Dirac. This deepening collaboration is one the pair claims will “redefine home audio experiences” by integrating Dirac’s room correction technologies into Onkyo’s products.
According to the companies, the original partnership between Onkyo and Dirac has grown significantly over the past year, focusing on optimizing audio performance across various environments, including home offices, living rooms, and home theaters. Onkyo’s engineers and product teams are working closely with Dirac’s developers at Onkyo’s Technology Center in Osaka, Japan, to ensure that the technologies are fully optimized for the best audio quality.
As a result of this collaboration, Onkyo and its sister brand Klipsch are preparing to unveil two new audio products later this year, the company says. These products will feature built-in Dirac Live Room Correction and Bass Control, marking a significant advancement in consumer audio technology. One of these products is expected to be a first in the consumer electronics industry.
Vincent Bonacorsi, COO of Onkyo parent company Premium Audio Company, emphasized the impact of Dirac’s technologies on Onkyo’s products.
“Dirac proves that the world’s best room correction software is not just for audiophiles. It’s for everyone,” Bonacorsi said in a statement, noting that the partnership has expanded to include Dirac Live Bass Control, now available in many Onkyo models.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
Onkyo’s flagship A/V receivers, the TX-RZ70 and TX-RZ50, include a Dirac Live Room Correction full bandwidth license at no additional cost. The TX-RZ70 also supports Bass Control, available as a paid upgrade. While the TX-RZ50 does not currently support Bass Control, it is expected to receive this feature in the coming months.
Fredric Tapper, Vice President of Home & Pro Audio at Dirac, shared his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating, “Dirac and Onkyo share a deep commitment to creating premium, high-quality audio for the many, not just the few. And it’s this shared commitment that has resulted in a successful collaboration these past few years. We look forward to strengthening and deepening our partnership with Onkyo to continue to push the boundaries of audio through premium hardware and industry-leading room correction software.”
Dirac Live Room Correction is designed to address common acoustic challenges in home audio systems, correcting both the magnitude and phase of the entire sound system, including the room itself. This results in a more transparent and balanced sound, with tighter bass and enhanced clarity. Dirac Live Bass Control, another key feature, ensures smooth bass distribution throughout a room, delivering deeper and more impactful bass regardless of the subwoofer’s position.
