People Were Using Their Josh.ai Systems to Create Some Interesting Automations in 2024

If you have ever wondered what your customers are most using their voice-enabled smart home controller for, you’re in luck, as Josh.ai has released data on the most popular automations used by customers on its smart home operating systems.

The company says 2024 was its most successful yet, with new hardware, new AI platforms, and partner ecosystem growth, and as a result, has mountains of data and insights into its end customers’ smart home control habits. The anonymous data is compiled from customersr who have opted in to share data with Josh.ai, so it doesn’t encapsulate the entirety of the Josh.ai user base.

Aside from the data, Josh.ai says its 2024 was marked by the launches of the Josh.ai + AVA Cinema Remote experience, Josh Touchscreen, and AI OS software platform. The company also teased future announcements, including the anticipated Josh Edge remote and other updates.

Lighting, Music, Shading Make Up Bulk of 83.1 Million Actions

According to the company, Josh.ai users took more than 83.1 million actions, which the company says illustrates the usefulness of smart home control systems, claiming that this saved users from burning the equivalent of 116,000 calories pushing buttons.

Also illustrating the growth of the connected home ecosystem, Josh.ai systems controlled an average of 219 devices, and the top three device categories of lighting, music and shading made up more than 70 million of the 83.1 million actions taken.

Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.

A key feature of Josh.ai systems is the ability to control devices with voice, and homeowners used nearly 3.7 million voice commands, the company says. Josh Micro, the company’s first hardware product, processed about 56% of those voice commands.

The Most Popular Automations in Josh.ai Systems

The company’s data also illustrates homeowners’ use of automation and scenes. According to the data, users triggered nearly 2.4 million scenes in 2024, and voice commands were used to do so more than 51% of the time.

Of the top scenes, “goodnight” and “goodbye” scenes represented about 8% of voice commands, prompting Josh.ai systems to lock doors, arm security systems, close shades, and turn off devices before users went to bed or left their home.

Meanwhile, “good morning” scenes made up more than 4% of voice commands, triggering homeowners’ personal morning rituals that included turning on lights, opening shades, adjusting thermostats, and playing music to star the day.

The company also released data on unique uses of home control systems, with one user even controlling a fish tank.

In addition to activating fireplaces, tea kettles and other devices to keep warm, some users even triggered personalized scenes with real-time weather data and conditional logic, the company says. For example, Josh.ai can adapt activations based on external factors and remind users to dress accordingly.
