Michi, an audiophile product company, is expanding its elite lineup of luxury components with the launch of the Michi Q5 Transport DAC.
The company states Q5 Transport DAC merges state-of-the-art technologies with high levels of craftsmanship to deliver high levels of sound quality for discerning audiophiles.
Michi points out that at its core the Q5 Transport DAC features an ESS ES9028PRO DAC eight-channel digital-to-analog converter. Michi has implemented the DAC in a fully balanced, fully differential circuit design to offer precision audio reproduction with a low noise floor to help ensure high levels of sound quality with minimal distortion to both XLR and RCA analog outputs.
The Q5 dedicates four channels within the DAC to each of the left and right audio signal paths, ensuring extraordinary detail retrieval and an expansive soundstage that brings every nuance of your music to life. For additional installation flexibility the Q5 also delivers CD audio to both coaxial and optical outputs allowing the unit to act as a CD Transport.
Rotel stresses the new Q5 Transport DAC continues to showcase Michi’s commitment to craftsmanship. The top-loading CD mechanism is constructed with a precision optical laser pickup housed in a carbon fiber and CNC-machined aluminum chassis that offers durability in a sleek, modern aesthetic. The CD mechanism is further mounted on a custom floating spring assembly, reducing unwanted vibrations and providing a stable platform for CD playback. Michi suggests the transport’s design not only enhances the unit’s visual appeal but also ensures the highest level of performance by isolating sensitive electronic circuits from physical disturbances.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.

To further ensure the Q5 Transport DAC’s performance, the company equipped the product with bespoke, dual in-house manufactured toroidal transformers that isolate digital and analog voltage supplies, significantly reducing noise and interference. The CD drive motor’s voltage and current supplies are also electrically isolated from the sensitive audio signals, preventing any potential motor noise from affecting the sound quality.
Beyond its CD playback capabilities, the Michi Q5 Transport DAC can serve homeowners a versatile digital music hub. The transport supports a wide range of additional audio inputs, including PC-USB (up to 32-bit / 384kHz) with MQA and DSD 4X support, plus 24-bit / 192kHz coaxial and optical inputs. These features make the Q5 compatible with a choice of digital sources to serve as a high-performance DAC for a homeowner’s entire audio system.
Looking at the industrial design of the Q5 Transport, Michi notes the unit’s front panel of the Q5 is a testament to its minimalist design philosophy. Some of those design elements include a full-color TFT display that showcases CD album artwork to support the listening experience. The included Michi remote provides seamless operation, while the inclusion of RS-232 and Ethernet ports enable integration with popular automation systems to support the product’s integration into modern smart home environments.
The Michi Q5 Transport DAC will be available through authorized Michi dealers starting in November 2024 for a retail price of $6,999.
