Samsung’s 2025 TV and soundbar releases just received an interesting announcement. As part of a partnership with Google, the new devices are to include a new spatial audio format developed in partnership with Google called Eclipsa Audio.
Designed to give creators the ability to adjust audio data such as the location and intensity of sounds, along with spatial reflections, to create a three-dimensional sound experience Samsung says it is the first company to adopt Eclipsa Audio, bringing the technology to displays like the Crystal UHD series and the company’s flagship Neo QLED 8K models.
Eclipsa Audio allows creators to adjust audio data such as the location and intensity of sounds, along with spatial reflections, to create an immersive three-dimensional sound experience, the company says. This may position Eclipsa Audio as a successor to other audio technologies such as Dolby Atmos.
“We are proud to lead the industry with the integration of Eclipsa Audio into our 2025 TV and soundbar lineup,” said Taeyong Son, Executive Vice President and Head of the R&D Team, Visual Display Business, Samsung Electronics. “This innovation opens new possibilities for immersive audio experiences and reinforces our commitment to shaping the future of home entertainment.”
According to Samsung, creators in 2025 will be able to upload videos with Eclipsa Audio tracks to YouTube, and Samsung devices can display YouTube videos with the spatial audio technology when available.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
Samsung says it is working with Google and the Telecommunications Technology Association (TTA) to create a certification program for using Eclipsa Audio. Samsung says this aims to ensure consistent audio quality and that consumers experience high audio standards.
“We believe that Eclipsa Audio has the potential to change the way we experience sound,” said Jim Bankoski, Vice President of Engineering, Google Chrome, in a statement. “We are excited to see how the creator community uses it to create new and innovative audio experiences.”
