Samsung says its flagship projector, the Premiere 8K, has become the first in the industry to receive 8K certification from the 8K Association, just days after the association introduced the 8K projector certification program.
The 8K Association on Dec. 10 introduced a certification program specifically for 8K projectors, broadening its scope beyond displays and televisions. The certification evaluates factors such as resolution, brightness, contrast, color gamut, high dynamic range (HDR), 8K upscaling capabilities, and immersive audio performance. Samsung’s Premier 8K has apparently met those standards.
According to Samsung, the Premiere 8K is an ultra-short throw projector designed for home cinema use. It features 8K wireless connectivity that simplifies streaming by eliminating the need for extensive cabling. The projector, first unvieled at CES 2024, uses advanced aspherical mirror technology to produce high-resolution visuals from short distances, eliminating the need for ceiling mounts or complex installations.
With a brightness level of 4,500 ISO Lumens, the Samsung Premiere 8K is capable of delivering detailed and vibrant images even in well-lit environments, the company says, adding that Sound-on-Screen technology integrates speakers and software algorithms to create a synchronized audio experience.
Taeyoung Son, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, calls the 8KA certification a “major milestone” as it demonstrates the new potential of projection technology.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
“We are committed to expanding the 8K ecosystem by continuously and extensively integrating new technologies,” Son said in a statement celebrating the certification.
Samsung bills the certification as positioning the Premiere 8K as a benchmark in the 8K projector market, reflecting ongoing advancements in the broader 8K technology landscape. As the 8K Association continues to develop its 8K standards, achievements like this are expected to facilitate wider adoption of 8K technology in both consumer and professional markets.
