It’s CES 2025 this week, and to kick off the news cycle in earnest, Shelly Group has announced it will be unveiling its Gen4 series of smart home devices while in Las Vegas this week. Additionally, Shelly will be showcasing its new LoRa network protocol compatibility (to be available in Gen4 devices as an add-on) announced back in December 2024 at booth #51223 in the Venetian Expo.
“At CES 2025, Shelly is redefining its role as a leader in the smart home market with solutions that prioritize compatibility, flexibility, and ease of use for all,” said Dimitar Dimitrov, CEO and co-founder of Shelly Group.
“The Gen4 Series represents a significant step forward in home automation, allowing users to choose the protocol and the devices that best fit their individual smart home system. These products provide an accessible entry point to home automation while supporting deeper customization and expansion.”
The Gen4 series introduces several upgrades to Shelly devices, such as Shelly’s popular US standard smart plug. The Gen4 version of the plug offers control for all connected 120V appliances and supports devices up to 1800W. Users can also automate usage based on energy consumption preferences through either the Shelly app or smart home platform of choice.
Perhaps the most striking of the batch, however, is the reveal of Shelly’s Wall Display X2: a 6.95-inch touchscreen control panel that manages lighting, fixtures and other smart home experiences.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
The device comes with built-in relay functionality and power monitoring, as well as temperature, humidity and light sensors to be leveraged in climate control automations. Users can also create custom scenes from the X2 interface, making it easier for both installers and homeowners to fine tune preferred home settings.
Shelly is also releasing a Gen4 water leak sensor, alongside two new relays: the PM and 1PM, the latter of which Shelly touts as being the “world’s smallest relay.” Quoted as being 35% smaller than other models, Shelly says the 1PM is ideal for retrofits and is capable of automating lights, garage doors and other small appliances.
The 1PM also introduces some more advanced functionality, such as scheduling, synchronization and scene control, to connected devices. Both switches incorporate energy monitoring and energy management features, as well, with opportunities to leverage both in the same way as the smart plug for better energy automation.
According to Shelly, the Gen4 series will employ multi-protocol support, meaning, users can swap between Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Zigbee, or Matter communication protocols to ensure greater compatibility within smart home systems. This compatibility also extends to other smart home platforms, like Google Home and Apple HomeKit.
Also new at CES 2025, Shelly will release its Dimmer Gen3, which will be compatible with existing switches or buttons, as well as being able to work with or without a neutral wire.
The new Gen4 devices are expected to be available for purchase in Q1 2025.
