Specifi: Elevate Efficiency & Professionalism with Digital Proposals

Operational efficiency has always been the goal for small-to-medium businesses in their quest for company growth and customer satisfaction. Specifi has made a splash in the custom channel recently, touting its all-inclusive AI proposal builder platform to assist dealers in those operations efforts.

Specifi launched with an auspicious start when it made its CEDIA Expo debut in 2023. The company won the coveted TechStarter Award at the event, and since then has been busy forming industry alliances.

The company recently rolled out its new Profitability Calculator to provide additional integrator resources; last year it established a WebBuilder Tool.

To give CE Pro readers more information on their innovative AI proposal builder software, Specifi CEO/Co-founder Matthew Booth and EVP of Strategy Joe Lautner chatted with editor Arlen Schweiger about the history behind the product and how integrators can benefit from it.

Booth can relate to the challenges SMBs face when working on refining their operations, since his background includes time spent as an electrician, custom installer, and distributor.

“I was a small business operator trying to win jobs, keep clients happy, suppliers on the go, and employees [happy]… it was a lot,” Booth recounts.

“I always thought my craftsmanship was at a certain level, but I never managed to achieve getting my proposals and business operations anywhere close to that.”

So, after a couple of years, Booth decided to open a distribution business to be Elan distributors in Ireland back in 2010. He met Lautner, who was at Nortek, during that time.

Distribution Business Sets Foundation for Specifi

Booth explains that as part of helping the distributor’s dealers grow, they created proposals for them and helped them with technical documents to get that elevate their presentation and professionalism.

“Obviously if you’re doing whole-house automation, the clients are of a certain net value generally and they have certain expectations. Being able to present yourself well was paramount to that,” he comments.

“We used to do this all manually, it took forever, so I set about to design what became the foundation for Specifi.”

Using it in the distribution business, Specifi was launched in 2017 and integrator requests started coming in swiftly with feedback and requests for more capabilities.
