StormAudio has entered into a partnership with Fraunhofer IIS, a global audio research and development company, to expedite the launch of MPEG-H Audio support in various StormAudio Immersive Sound Processor products. These new synergies will be showcased at CES 2025, in Fraunhofer‘s booth at the Venetian Tower Exhibit Suites (34-204 & 34-209).
MPEG-H Audio is an audio coding standard developed by the ISO/IEC Moving Picture Experts Group (MPEG) and Fraunhofer IIS originally published in 2015. Since then, the standard has been broadly adopted for next generation broadcast systems in South Korea, Brazil and Japan. Since then, Fraunhofer has been working to incorporate the standard into consumer-level devices with it becoming the 3GPP’s standard audio codec for video streaming over mobile networks in 2018.
The standard allows applicable devices to mix together multiple audio channels that can then be used to create a 3D immersive audio space.
“Achieving MPEG-H certification is a significant milestone for StormAudio.”, says Olivier Thumerel, CEO, StormAudio. “With the growing adoption of the MPEG-H Audio format in multiple countries and across Sony 360 Reality Audio streaming platforms, it became essential for us to integrate this technology into our products. This certification underlines our commitment to delivering the highest standards in immersive audio technology, ensuring our integrators and their clients experience unparalleled sound quality. For our current products, this integration will be made possible through a hardware upgrade. We are proud to collaborate with Fraunhofer IIS, whose innovation continues to shape the future of audio.”
Acting quickly to bring these new technologies to the home AV industry, the French company, along with Fraunhofer IIS state that StormAudio is immediately releasing products that feature the new technology.
As a custom integrator, lighting is in demand. Effective communication, education and showcasing the value proposition of LED light fixtures in conjunction with integrative control systems are the keys to overcoming challenges and closing sales in this specialized market.
