After nearly a decade of promoting the infrasonic subwoofer market, ASCENDO Immersive Audio seeks to position itself as a go-to manufacturer in this specialized audio category with the release of the AIA2-10K2 IS 1U 19-inch amplifier.
Debuting at Integrated Systems Europe (ISE) 2025, on February 4–7, 2025, in Stand #2E300, the new amp is designed to deliver high levels of bass performance consistent with the demands of achieving infrasonic sound.
The amplifier is engineered to provide stable, continuous output power across all frequencies, starting as low as 3Hz. Unlike standard amplifiers that quickly lose power after a few milliseconds, the German manufacturer explains its design ensures no voltage sag, even under the most demanding load conditions.
In addition, the company says the higher damping factor of the AIA2-10K2 IS Amplifier dramatically enhances bass extension, punch, and clarity, making the home theater experience more impactful and immersive.
In its announcement, ASCENDO noted that before developing the AIA2-10K2 IS 1U, the company found existing amplifiers, including the commercial models, struggled to meet the extreme demands of delivering full power at sub-20Hz frequencies, down to the lowest single digits.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
ASCENDO suggests that most commercial amplifiers, especially those designed for public address (PA) systems, focus on short-term bass output. Those products the company continues are built for rock concerts where saving space and weight is critical, and where amplifiers only need to deliver high power for 20 to 40 milliseconds and rarely below 35Hz.
Home theaters ASCENDO contends are a different arena. Home theater it notes, require continuous, sustained power, especially in the low-frequency effects (LFE) range. The typical PA amplifier, with a lightweight power supply and reliance on short bursts of dynamic power, falls short of delivering the deep, rich, and consistent bass that home theater content demands.
Infrasonic refers to sounds and notes that occur at frequencies below the level of human hearing. In the world of subwoofers, this often relates to any sound produced below 20Hz.
While not audible, infrasonic frequencies still remain a critical part of many movie soundtracks as the human body is still able to react to these frequencies, cultivating a sense of dread or “heaviness” in the air. SVS Sound on their website describes the sensation as “pressurizing a room.”
Music tracks as well, will sometimes lean into infrasonic sound to cultivate certain responses from the listener, making accurate recreation of infrasound a critical component to anyone listening to music or watching a film and wanting to experience what the creator originally intended.
