Quality Audio Visual‘s (QAV) Estancia Estate project takes us to the mountains of Colorado for an elevated lighting project that mixes modern class with intelligent automation. Leveraging a variety of custom, luxury fixtures on a Crestron platform, the project stands out for its innovative design as well as superior craftsmanship.
The extensive use of lighting brings a level of much needed warmth to the otherwise cold-seeming modern design used throughout the Colorado estate. In the main living area, a large, linear chandelier helps flood the space with ambient light as sunlight pours in from the large windows that look out onto the property.
Moving on to the kitchen, tubular hanging pendant lights focus light onto the work surface of the kitchen island, while under cabinet lights provide delightful accents to the rest of the kitchen. Meanwhile, overhead downlights aligned with the kitchen workspace provide a soft diffusion of light throughout.
Moving up the stairs, one even sees a jewel-like lighting arrangement suspended in midair they ascend to the upper levels. While many of the lighting fixtures were pulled from Proluxe’s catalog, QAV also worked in a few rare cases to develop bespoke fixtures that would still tie in with the rest of the estate’s modern aesthetic.
The sheer number of lighting elements did cause its own problems on the project, however.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
“Space constraints required meticulous planning for fixture placement,” noted Carly Bitz of QAV. “Additionally, we had to make some compromises by adjusting some fixture placements and scaling back non-essential features to stay within budget, with the client’s agreement.
“We took a very collaborative approach which ensured the project met high standards of quality and aesthetics, ultimately delivering a stunning lighting design that exceeded our expectations.”
Despite the compromises, the Estancia Estate stands out for its ability to add subtle splashes of warmth and color throughout the interior, while still offering full-bodied control of the entire system.
From toe-kick lighting to advanced integrated controls in the chandeliers, everything present is controllable via the Crestron platform, providing the homeowners precise control and automation with zero flicker dimming.
