According to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, one film is both a visual and audio masterpiece: “Dune: Part Two.” The film won Oscars for both Visual Effects and Audio at the 97th Academy Awards, due to filmmakers’ ability to create vast, dynamic desert landscapes, CGI-generated giant sandworms, massive battle scenes, and majestic scenes of alien worlds that have come to define the first to films in the series.
The second film in the series follows Paul Atreides, played by Timothy Chalamet, as he engrains himself in the culture of the Fremen, the natives to the sand world Arrakis, on which the entire series is based on due to the planet’s abundance of “spice,” an incredibly valuable mineral.
On the auditory front, this film is absolutely deserving of the Oscars recognition. The film makes great use of unsettling tones, guttural sounds for creatures such as the sandworms, epic battle soundscapes, and more. What stands out to me, however, is The Voice—the mind control voice Paul and the mysterious Benne Gesserit can wield to get what they want.

Here are the other equally deserving Oscars nominees in the Visual Effects and Sound categories:
