Advanced Integrated Controls (AIC) designed this bespoke entertainment area to serve dual purposes in this specialty request, offering both a premium family home theater experience and an ultimate gaming room for the kids. The room is enhanced with Ketra RGB lighting, which adjusts according to the content being viewed, creating a dynamic atmosphere.
A backlit theater screen, in combination with overhead lighting, sets the ideal ambiance for both movies and games. The system is versatile, seamlessly switching between various sources like Kaleidescape, Apple TV, and PlayStation gaming. A laser projector ensures an impeccable image on the impressive 120-inch screen, elevating both movie watching and gaming.
The design emphasizes user convenience with all components controlled by one universal remote, simplifying operation. “This project illustrates how any space, with thoughtful design and implementation, can be transformed into a functional and immersive theater,” explains AIC’s Jen Hubner.
“The redesign creates a captivating environment, incorporating advanced features like Lutron and Ketra lighting scenes that set the perfect ambiance.
A 7.2.2 sound system equipped with Dolby Atmos provides an enveloping audio experience, while custom seating ensures maximum comfort for viewers and gamers. A video wall matrix is a standout feature, allowing the homeowners simultaneous use of four gaming consoles on the screen, making it perfect for multiplayer gaming sessions.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
To further elevate the experience, AIC added elevated tiered seating, enhancing the theater experience and ensuring optimal viewing from all angles. This layout ensures that every seat in the room provides an excellent view, making the theater a versatile and enjoyable environment for both movies and gaming.
The request to convert a mechanical room into a home theater did not come until during the final phase of construction as AIC worked with CS Thomas Construction. Originally, this space was an unfinished, unventilated area housing all the Lutron panels and electrical systems for the home, complete with windows.
“This called for a complete redesign by the AIC team. Collaborating with the builder, we developed a layout that balanced the existing infrastructure with the new theater functionality,” says.
The primary challenge for Advanced Integrated Controls was to conceal the electrical components while maintaining the theater’s design and access for maintenance, and adequate ventilation. AIC’s crew addressed these needs by constructing a false wall featuring pop-open doors, allowing access to the Lutron panels from the front and the rear.
“Additionally, we angled the ceiling to enhance acoustic performance and achieve a polished, sleek theatrical design,” adds. “This solution successfully balanced the operational requirements with the homeowner’s vision, transforming the mechanical room into a functional and stylish theater space.”
