Xperi, the owners of TiVo and the new TiVo-branded smart TV operating system, says the U.S. launch of TiVo OS-powered TVs may come later this month.
The company, which partners with TV manufacturers Panasonic, Argos, Sharp and several Vestel brands for the European market, had previously said it would launch U.S. smart TVs with the TiVo operating system by the end of 2024. However, during a third-quarter earnings conference call, company executives said delays to those shipments will push some monetization expectations to 2025.
Xperi states production for the TVs will begin later this month under an unnamed U.S. partner, with a second one expected to join shortly after. Xperi still expects to hit the company’s target of 2 million TiVo OS-powered smart TVs by the end of the year.
The company says activity in the latter part of the year is consistent with a goal of 7 million TiVo OS units by the end of 2025. Xperi says it’s partner pipeline is strong, with seven partners committed to the TiVo OS platform, which is apparently enough to hit the company’s goal of 7 million units by the end of 2025 even without new partners.
Currently, TiVo OS is only available in the UK, France, Italy, Spain, Germany and Turkey and several other European countries.
Lightapalooza took place in late February, and the growth of the event has mirrored the rapid ascension lighting fixtures and controls.
Panasonic became the sixth manufacturer to sign on, which recently announced that they were the sixth such manufacturer partner. Xperi, during its second quarter earnings conference call earlier this year, said it has now signed a seventh manufacturer.
This new unknown TV manufacturer is a “top five supplier” of smart TVs in the U.S., and plans to launch TVs powered by TiVo in the U.S. next spring, Xperi CEO Jon Kirchner said during the call, who later said TiVo OS-powered TVs will be in the U.S. market “later this year” with at least one manufacturer partner.
The company bills TiVo OS as a smart TV operating system designed to help users find content across their streaming apps, allowing users to create universal watchlists and get personalized recommendations based on their unique taste profile.
Xperi also highlights the platform’s intuitive user interface and its voice control capabilities designed to help users find what they want to watch.
