Toshiba’s G700S Shows Just How Popular the Art TV Category Has Become

Art TVs have quickly risen to dominance in the lifestyle category for home entertainment, so it should come as no surprise that even outside the CI channel, other companies have begun to pitch their offerings to the masses. In comes the Toshiba TV REGZA ArtVision G700s, an art TV inspired by Japanese minimalism and built off Toshiba’s REGZA hardware.

Key Features of the G700S

Toshiba G700S ArtVision Bezel Frame

The G700S sports a slim profile as thin as 1.2 inches, and a two-tone White Oak frame aimed at helping it blend into the surrounding environment. With an UltraSlim wall mount included in the box, it hangs close to the wall with no awkward gap for a gallery-like look.

As far as display technology is concerned, the TV is built on a platform of QLEDs with a matte anti-glare treatment to minimize screen glare while contributing to the canvas-like appearance while the TV is switched into Ambient Mode. Toshiba also says the TV has a 165Hz refresh rate.

One thing unique to the REGZA, however, it its built-in Power Audio system, which pairs up-firing and down-firing speakers to add layers of height to the audio experience.

Additionally, the TV’s Ambient Mode comes with over 3,000 curated artworks that are free to download, compared to other art TVs that may come with a subscription for the art feature.

Why Integrators Should Take Note

Despite being a consumer-focused model (being sold exclusively on Amazon), the G700S highlights how popular art TVs have become as an entertainment option in homes. In general, the TV serves as the centerpiece of the living room, but at the same time, it is often the hardest piece of home technology to design around.

This difficulty is what has led to the rise of art TVs as a category, being an easy bridge between aesthetics and entertainment in the home, and making it easier for integrators to contribute to the design of a home while working on a project.

Given the nature of TVs, however, competition so often develops into a race to the bottom. As prices for art TVs drop as the technology and processes become more refined, integrators will want to keep an eye on the features and services being offered so they can convey these differences to customers and better navigate the broadening category of art TVs.
